GR Auto Gallery is pleased to present this beautifully customized 1936 Ford 5-Window Coupe, finished in a stunning Metallic Garnet Red over a cream cloth interior. This classic Ford combines the timeless styling of a prewar American hot rod with modernized mechanical components, upgraded suspension, and desirable creature comforts. Built around an original-style steel body and a new chassis constructed by Terry Williams, this coupe offers an attractive blend of vintage character and modern drivability. The deep metallic red paint complements the flowing fenders, distinctive five-window roofline, chrome trim, and polished five-spoke wheels, giving the car a traditional street rod appearance.
Power comes from a fuel-injected 305ci Chevrolet V8 sourced from a 1987 Camaro, paired with a 700R4 four-speed automatic transmission. A Lokar floor-mounted shifter provides a classic hot rod feel, while the overdrive transmission makes the car better suited for highway cruising. The engine compartment features polished valve covers, custom-painted components, and a clean presentation. A new exhaust system has recently been installed, along with a new battery. Additional mechanical upgrades include an Alan Grove accessory mounting system, electric fuel pump mounted inside the fuel tank, and a modernized cooling system.
Underneath, this Ford benefits from a custom chassis equipped with TCI front and rear suspension components, providing a substantial improvement over the original 1936 running gear. Mustang II-style independent front suspension is paired with power rack-and-pinion steering, while a 1978 Granada rear axle with 2.79 gearing handles power delivery. Braking has also been upgraded with 11-inch front disc brakes, GM calipers, and a Corvette master cylinder. The combination of modern suspension, power steering, upgraded brakes, and automatic overdrive makes this coupe a more approachable classic for regular cruising and weekend enjoyment.
The interior is finished in a comfortable cream cloth upholstery, professionally completed by Mike's Upholstery of Olney, Illinois. The plush bench seat, matching door panels, and upholstered headliner provide a welcoming cabin that contrasts beautifully with the rich metallic exterior. The body-colored dashboard retains its vintage appearance while incorporating Dolphin instrumentation, aftermarket air conditioning and heating controls, and a remote-controlled CD/radio stereo system. A later-model steering column and floor-mounted Lokar shifter further contribute to the car's updated driving experience. The rear trunk compartment has also been upholstered to match the interior, providing a nicely finished storage area.
The exterior is finished in Medium Garnet Red Metallic, a rich color that highlights the Ford's unmistakable Art Deco styling. The steel body retains the classic long hood, sweeping front fenders, rear-mounted spare-free profile, and distinctive five-window configuration that have made these coupes favorites among hot rod enthusiasts for generations. Polished 14-inch front and 15-inch rear wheels give the car a subtle staggered stance, while the chrome accents and traditional body lines preserve its unmistakable 1930s identity. According to the accompanying build information, the tires were replaced in 2020.
This 1936 Ford 5-Window Coupe is an appealing example of a traditional American street rod, offering classic steel-body construction with thoughtful upgrades throughout. With its fuel-injected V8, automatic overdrive transmission, custom chassis, independent front suspension, power steering, upgraded brakes, air conditioning, and comfortable custom interior, this Ford is built to be enjoyed rather than simply admired. Whether cruising to local car shows, attending weekend events, or adding a distinctive prewar Ford to a collection, this Metallic Garnet Red coupe delivers timeless hot rod style with modern convenience.
