Used Motorcycle Prices in 2026 — Market Trends & What to Expect

March 27, 2026 · 6 min read

Used motorcycle prices have continued their gradual correction from the post-pandemic highs of 2022 and 2023. Across all categories tracked on GotMotos, the average asking price for a used motorcycle in Q1 2026 is $12,480, which represents a 6.2% decline from the same period last year. That is good news for buyers because the market is shifting in your favor for the first time in four years.

This report breaks down pricing trends by motorcycle category, identifies the best values in the current market, and gives you the data to negotiate from a position of knowledge. All pricing data is sourced from active GotMotos listings and updated monthly.

Key Takeaway for Buyers

Sport bikes and naked motorcycles offer the best value right now. Prices are down 8% year-over-year with inventory increasing as riders upgrade to adventure and touring bikes. If you have been eyeing a used Honda CBR600RR, Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R, Yamaha R6, or any middleweight sportbike, this is the most favorable buying market since 2019.

Why Used Motorcycle Prices Are Dropping

1. The Pandemic Bubble Is Unwinding

During 2020 through 2022, motorcycle demand surged as people sought outdoor recreation during lockdowns. Dealers marked up used inventory 15 to 30 percent above pre-pandemic levels, and private sellers followed suit because comparable listings were all inflated. That artificial price floor is finally giving way as supply normalizes and the urgency-driven buyer pool shrinks. We are roughly two-thirds of the way through the correction, and most of the remaining decline will happen in the sport and standard categories where the initial markup was highest.

2. New Model Pricing Is Pulling Buyers Away From Used

Manufacturers are aggressively pricing new entry-level and middleweight models. The 2026 Kawasaki Ninja 500 at $5,999 and the Honda Rebel 300 at $4,699 are now close enough to used pricing that many first-time buyers are choosing a new bike with a factory warranty instead of a used one without. This reduces demand for used bikes in the $4,000 to $7,000 price range, which cascades upward as sellers adjust to compete. Royal Enfield and CFMoto are also pushing aggressively into the sub-$5,000 market with capable machines that further erode used pricing power.

3. Seasonal Inventory Buildup Is Larger Than Usual

Spring always brings a surge of listings as riders list their current bike before buying something new. The Q1 2026 inventory spike is larger than usual. We are tracking 12 percent more active listings on GotMotos compared to Q1 2025, which is creating downward price pressure across all categories. More supply with relatively flat demand means buyers have leverage they did not have even six months ago.

Watch Out for Overpriced Listings

Not all sellers have adjusted to the new market reality. We are still seeing 15 to 20 percent of listings priced at 2023 levels, especially from private sellers who bought at the peak and are anchored to what they paid. GotMotos Deal Scores flag these as High Price so you can spot them instantly. Stick to listings rated Great Deal or Good Deal and you will be buying at or below current market value.

Best Values by Price Range

Under $5,000: Best Bang for the Buck

The sub-$5,000 market is thriving right now. The Honda CB300R, Kawasaki Z400, Yamaha MT-03, and Royal Enfield Meteor 350 regularly appear in this range with under 10,000 miles. These are mechanically simple bikes that are cheap to insure and hold their value well if you decide to upgrade in a year or two. The Suzuki SV650 occasionally dips under $5,000 at higher mileage, and at 30,000 miles a well-maintained SV650 has barely started its mechanical lifespan. $5,000 to $10,000: The Sweet Spot

This is where the market correction hits hardest and where buyers benefit most. Sport bikes that were $10,000 to $12,000 in 2023 are now landing squarely in this range. You can find clean Yamaha MT-07s, Honda CBR600RRs from 2007 through 2012, Triumph Street Triples, and Kawasaki Versys 650s all well under $10,000 with reasonable mileage. For cruisers, the Harley-Davidson Sportster Iron 883 and Honda Shadow 750 are solid choices in this bracket. Adventure riders should look at the Suzuki V-Strom 650 and Kawasaki Versys 650, both of which represent outstanding value per dollar in this range.

$10,000 to $20,000: Premium Used Territory

This range gives you access to lightly used adventure bikes like the BMW F 850 GS and Yamaha Tenere 700, premium nakeds like the Ducati Monster and Triumph Speed Triple, and mid-tier Harley tourers including the Street Glide and Road King. The best deals in this bracket are on 2019 to 2021 models that have taken their initial depreciation hit but still have low miles, modern electronics, and plenty of remaining service life.

$20,000 and Above: Touring and Collectible

Above $20,000, the market is remarkably stable. Harley Road Glides, Honda Gold Wings, and BMW R 1250 GS Adventures hold their value because their buyers are typically upgrade-and-keep riders, not flippers. Prices are down only 1.8% year-over-year in this segment. CVO editions and limited-production models from any manufacturer continue to appreciate, particularly if they have under 10,000 miles and clean history. This is the one segment where buying used does not save you much compared to new.

What to Expect for the Rest of 2026

Based on current inventory trends and historical seasonal patterns, here is what we forecast for the used motorcycle market through the rest of the year:

Spring (April through June): Prices will stabilize as riding season demand absorbs the inventory surplus. Expect a slight uptick of 2 to 3 percent in average asking prices for popular models. This is the last window for buyers to negotiate from a position of strength before summer demand kicks in.

Summer (July through September): Peak demand season. Prices typically rise 5 to 8 percent from spring lows. Dealers have less flexibility on pricing because inventory turns faster. If you are planning to buy, buy before Memorial Day weekend.

Fall (October through December): The best buyer’s market of the entire year. Sellers get motivated as riding season ends and storage costs loom. Late October through December consistently produces the lowest used motorcycle prices of the year, especially in northern states where winter riding is not practical. Southern state pricing stays more stable year-round but still dips 3 to 5 percent from summer peaks.

How to Use This Data When Negotiating

Bookmark the category pricing table at the top of this article. When a seller tells you their asking price, you now know exactly where it sits relative to the market average. A seller asking $10,500 for a used sport bike when the category average is $8,340 needs to justify a $2,160 premium with specific evidence: low miles, recent service, rare color, aftermarket upgrades. Most cannot justify that gap.

For even more leverage, use the GotMotos trade-in valuation tool to get a JD Power and NADA value for the specific year, make, and model you are considering. Then compare that wholesale value to the asking price. The gap between wholesale value and asking price is your negotiation range.

Every listing on GotMotos includes a Deal Score that does this comparison automatically. The Deal Score rates each listing as Great Deal, Good Deal, Fair Price, or High Price based on comparable vehicles in our database. Filter for Great Deal listings and you are guaranteed to be looking at bikes priced meaningfully below market average.

Before making any offer, run the VIN through our free vehicle history tool and get pre-approved for financing so you know your budget ceiling before you start negotiating.
