1972 BMW E9 3.0cs coupe in Black. According to the internet 738 of these hand built cars were produced for 1972 and very few of them were black.
This car runs well and drives well. Newer, tires, brakes, cooling system, clutch, the list goes on. Has some rust Mostly surface underneath (see photos)
Note: I did not doll up, or clean the bottom. Pictures are honest and As Found!
No overheating or leaking etc.
Now running a newer M30B35 3.5L with fuel injection and a 5sp, but I also have the **Numbers Matching engine block** as well.
Car has had the whole interior redone from top to bottom using very high end leather (not a kit) and looks/ feels great! No expense spared.
The car was in Virginia until the 1990's when it came to California. Prior to leaving Virginia it had new exterior sheet metal (fenders etc) put on and the car was painted the original color Black. See picture of receipt in photos.
I have an almost complete paperwork history of the car as well as all Manuals and Assembly guides.
The car has little rust now that I can find and has been dry for decades.(see photos /ask questions)
This is a good car for someone who wants a very rare driver car to enjoy, or who wants to have the body reworked and painted.
The bad:
AC was removed during engine upgrade /heater only
Drivers window is slipping and needs attention/passenger window is sticky when lowered fully
Paint is almost 40 years old and has cracks scratches throughout and a dent in rear under the tail light
Missing passenger side windshield wiper
2 small paint bubbles on body(size of a pencil eraser head)
One rear shock mount top was welded decades ago (works fine)
The good:
Very Rare car and color
Paint is old so any rust problems are readily evident (no surprises)
Comes with Numbers matching engine block (almost none have this)
Looks amazing and gets compliments everywhere !
Mechanically sound/ starts runs great /stops straight/ very functional
No dripping / overheating /etc.
Lovely very high end interior
Lots and lots of money already spent !
I also have spare parts and all Shop manuals and assembly guides, along with a fairly large amount of paperwork "History" on the car. 2 binders worth
Why am I selling: Lost my storage space / more work responsibilities / collecting other things
I have owned the car about 8 years and have about $60k in the car. $15k mechanical/$15k interior/ $18k purchase/ $10k misc. I really wanted it to be quick, super reliable and exceptionally nice interior. Largely, that's what this car is.
I have owned worked on / restored classic cars for 45 years and worked in the field on and off for most of my life. I will answer questions and give information happily to help those with serious interest in this rare car! I have enjoyed owning this car and would like to pass it on to someone who appreciates and understands what it is.
