1997 LAND ROVER DEFENDER 90 - DOCUMENTED FRAME-OFF RESTORATION | RARE NAS AUTOMATIC
This is a no-expense-spared, ground-up restoration of one of the most collectible trucks Land Rover ever sent to North America - a genuine 1997 North American Spec (NAS) Defender 90, backed by $69,369.89 in professional restoration work with six pages of itemized invoices included in the photos.
WHY THIS ONE IS SPECIAL: 1997 was the final year Land Rover imported the Defender to the United States before airbag regulations ended sales for good. These factory-legal, U.S.-titled, LEFT-HAND-DRIVE examples are already scarce - and this one adds a genuinely uncommon twist: it is an AUTOMATIC. The vast majority of NAS 90s left the factory as 5-speed manuals, making a clean, U.S.-spec, LHD, automatic Defender 90 a rare and highly desirable configuration that pairs vintage Defender character with easy, everyday drivability.
THE RESTORATION (all documented - Accurate Automotive & Performance, Logan, UT):
- Body removed from the frame; frame sandblasted, rust-repaired, fitted with new shock towers and body mounts, then primed and coated
- 4.0L Rover V8 fully rebuilt and run in on break-in oil
- Complete respray in a custom gunmetal-grey metallic
- Black leather interior (front buckets and rear jump seats), premium carpet, restored dash, roll cage
- Bilstein shocks and steering damper; new brake lines, calipers and pads; rebuilt fuel system
- Upgraded audio: JVC head unit, Rockford Fosgate amplifier, speakers and subwoofer
- 18-inch black alloy wheels on Falken Wildpeak A/T3W 265/65R18 all-terrain tires; matching full-size spare on rear swing-out carrier
- Round LED headlamps, mesh grille, front A-bar, tube rear bumper with recovery points
CONDITION: Runs and drives perfectly. No rust anywhere - the chassis and undercarriage are clean and coated. Odometer reads 188,827 miles; because the truck was rebuilt from the frame up with a fully rebuilt engine, it presents and drives far newer than the number suggests. Clean Utah title in hand, in my name.
